First Nuke Plant in 30 Years

The Nuclear regulatory comission approved construction of the first nuclear power plant in over 30 years. There are 104 operating nuclear power plants in the US and the last plant issued a construction permit was in 1978 in Raliegh, North Carolina. The new permit was awarded to Southern Company , Inc, with a design based on the Westinghouse Advanced Passive 1000 pressurized water reactor. Each reactor will have a capacity of 1,100MWe.
