Evacuated Tube Transportation

Imagine traveling at 4,000 mph on a 45 minute trip from New York to LA! A company called ET3 (Evacuated Tube Transport Technologies) is developing a mag-lev vehicle inside a vacuum tube that can travel between 350MPH for shorter state trips & 4,000MPH for longer international trips. Each capsule weights 400lbs and can carry up to 6 passengers or 800lbs of cargo. Compared to high speed rail, ET3 needs only 1/20th the material to build because the vehicles are so light. In addition with a passive switching system a pair of ET3 tubes could exceed the capacity of a 32 lane freeway. The cost is claimed to be 1/10th the cost of high speed rail and 1/4 the cost of a freeway.
