Thorium Power is claimed to be safer and more abundant according to Richard Martin, author of Super Fuel: Thorium-Green Energy Source For the Future. A quick “Cliffs Notes” of the book reveals that Thorium is a viable alternative to Uranium (and less radioactive). There are huge thorium reserves in the US which could supply a limitless supply of clean and cheap power. Despite the growing support for advancement of this technology, many investors and analyst see the low cost of natural gas as an inhibitor for investment in thorium power plants. However, with the evidence that Thorium reactors could/would be alot safer then conventional reactors it is clear a switch should be made. With disasters like Chernobyl and Fukushima it is clear that Uranium should be phased out, regardless of the economics.
